Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) is a not-for-profit organisation that works with certification and standardisation. It is the only standardisation forum in Brazil and the Brazilian representative in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

ABNT Ecolabel – Hummingbird is the Type I Ecolabel developed and managed by the Sustainability Certification Area of ABNT. It is the only Ecolabel Type I programme accredited under ISO 17065. It is also developed following ISO 14024 principles. The Hummingbird Ecolabel includes criteria that minimise impacts along the lifecycle of the products.

ABNT is the only Brazilian GEN Member and cooperates with other GEN Members worldwide to develop standards criteria and adapt to the Brazilian requirements.

ABNT currently has 20 standards developed in the following group of criteria:

  • Cleaning products
  • Paper products
  • Personal care products
  • Cleaning services
  • Clothing and Textiles

ABNT Ecolabel has been included in government procurement policies to choose products with lower environmental impacts, especially furniture and electronics.
