Green Crane (All Ukrainian NGO Living Planet)

The Centre for Environmental Certification and Labelling of the Ukrainian NGO Living Planet has been a part of GEN since 2004.

Living Planet contributes to developing a sustainable market in Ukraine. It follows the principles and objectives of the EU Green Deal, joined by Ukraine, preventing greenwashing and increasing sustainable products competitiveness.

In early 2022, Living Planet expanded the scope of national accreditation for environmental criteria, following ISO 14024: 2018 and national legislation.

The updated accreditation has been registered in the Register of the National Accreditation Agency of Ukraine. The Centre is registered as a competent body to assess the conformity of products with environmental criteria defined by the following product categories:

• Food and beverages;
• Drinking water;
• Cosmetics;
• Furniture and floor coverings;
• Textiles, mattresses;
• Building materials and products;
• Plastic products;
• Household chemicals (detergents and cleaners);
• Paint and varnish materials;
• Electrical and household appliances.

The National Technical Committee TC 82 “Environmental Protection” working group is responsible for developing the environmental criteria for the Living Planet standards.

The environmental criteria meet the requirements of ISO standards and are harmonised with the indicators of European ecolabelling and other GEN members.

Products that meet Living Planet environmental criteria receive the Green Crane ecolabel, showing the environmental leadership of their manufacturers.

Green Crane ecolabel certifies that manufacturers comply with robust environmental criteria that goes above the national mandatory requirements for products and their life cycle, including:

• Resource efficiency;
• Impact on the environment and human health according to safety indicators of the UN Classification and Labeling of Chemical Substances (GHS);
• Waste reduction

Green Crane certified products are successfully sold as more environmentally friendly products in 34 countries.
