New figures from Nordic Ecolabelling show that the number of buildings certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel has increased by 89 % in just two years. Around 66,000 Nordic Swan certified apartments, small houses and buildings for schools and pre-schools are now completed or under construction.

This positive development started in Sweden, where a significant part of the buildings is constructed or under construction. Sweden is in the lead with 54,504 housing units, of which 17,892 are completed and 36,612 are under construction. “The increase also indicates that the Nordic Swan Ecolabel is an ecolabel that more and more construction companies and customers must comply with”, says Stefan Björling, business area manager for Houses and Renovations at Ecolabelling Sweden.

The increase also indicates that the Nordic Swan Ecolabel is an ecolabel that more and more construction companies and customers must comply with Stefan Björling, Business Area Manager: Houses and Renovations, Ecolabelling Sweden.

A Nordic Swan certified building meets strict requirements throughout its life cycle. It is characterised by low energy consumption and good indoor air quality. The building meets strict requirements for environmentally and health-damaging substances in building materials and chemical products – and stringent requirements for certified wood. Furthermore, it is also characterised by a review of an independent third party of the construction process and the finished construction.
